Sean Cory joins the cast of Chuck Parker's short film The Shift, which is a part of Cannes' Short Film Corner series. Who does a 9-1-1 Operator call when he has a problem? Jimmy Callahan is having a bad night in the Police Communications Center, his ex-girlfriend is stalking him, his Supervisor is threatening to fire him and the phone won™t stop ringing. Jimmy feels like he is drowning, but finds comfort in the voice of one caller. A girl calls to report an attempted rape, but she is scared and has blocked her call so she can not be traced. Jimmy tries to talk her into reporting the incident, but the girl gives no information. The girl continues to call, but hangs up without giving any important information. Jimmy deals with calls including an irate foreign man yelling œI have something under my dick!, a mother and teenage daughter dispute that ends with the daughter hanging herself and a car chase through the streets of Hollywood. All this and the Supervisor is still trying to get Jimmy fired. Jimmy makes it through the night. The foreign man™s œdick turns out to be an animal under the œDECK to his swimming pool, the teenage girl survives her suicide attempt, her mother calls to praise Jimmy and his life saving directions over the phone, but the girl never officially reports the attempted rape. Jimmy is at the end of his shift and feels a hand on his shoulder, the morning dispatcher steps up to relieve Jimmy. His co-workers voice sounds like the girl he™s been talking to all night¦ or is it?
